Levels of Longevity Map David explores
David Luu is one of 100+ experts in the Live Beyond Project — a father & son quest for longevity.
Discover Live Beyond →David Luu is a longevity doctor from New York, but that title barely contains him. He has been on what he calls “a personal journey to help other people live better” since he was twenty years old — twenty-four years of medicine now, carried across four continents, much of it in developing countries. He wanted to be a doctor from the very beginning: he was wearing a surgical mask in his father’s office at the age of three.
What makes his voice unusual in a field obsessed with molecules is what he chooses to emphasise. “Love is an underrated tool in the longevity space,” he told us. We measure drugs and modalities and biomarkers — but how do we measure love, self-love, self-esteem, and taking care of “our own temple, body and mind”? For David, that unmeasured thing is central, which is exactly why he sits at Longevity Basics of the map, in mindset and purpose.
His fuel is purpose. “I’m energized by the mission,” he says — the body may be tired from travel, but the mind stays lit, using the obstacles as a motivational force for a true life journey. It is the same energy that carried Marek and Aleksander around the world.
And his aim is simple and large: to leave the world a little better. In the communities where he works he doesn’t just treat — he brings knowledge and self-improvement, so people can grow by themselves. Being a doctor, he says, isn’t a diploma or a title; it’s something you are forever.
We met David around ARDD — the Aging Research & Drug Discovery meeting — and again at the Biomarkers of Aging gathering in Boston. Amid all the talk of interventions and drugs, he kept returning the conversation to love, connection and purpose. He is warm, energised and completely sincere, and he reminded us that the most human parts of longevity are the ones nobody has learned to measure yet.
“Love is an underrated tool in the longevity space. We measure a lot of drugs and modalities — yet how do we measure love, self-love, and taking care of our own body and mind?”

David LuuThree ideas David keeps returning to.
We can measure drugs, modalities and biomarkers — but not love, self-love or self-esteem. David’s bet is that the unmeasured thing matters most, and that the future of longevity will have to make room for it.
“How do we measure love?”

David Luu was filmed around ARDD and the Biomarkers of Aging meeting, 2024. Passages from that conversation:
David Luu“I started my personal journey — and I really call it a personal journey — to help other people live better in terms of health when I was twenty years old. I always wanted to be a doctor. I started wearing a surgical mask in my dad’s office when I was three years old. You’re a doctor forever; it’s not only your title and diploma.”
David Luu“Love is an underrated tool in the longevity space. We’re talking about a lot of drugs, a lot of techniques, revolutionary modalities — yet how do we measure love, self-love, self-esteem, and taking care of our own temple, our body and mind? It’s really, really understated.”
David Luu“I’m energized. Even when you see the body is tired, the mind is energized. When you travel you forget about being tired, about the challenges and obstacles — you use that as a true motivational force. That’s a true life journey.”
David Luu“At the top, I look at what I really want to achieve as a human being — I want to leave a world that’s a little bit better. In my work in developing countries across four continents, you bring people knowledge and self-improvement, so they can grow by themselves.”
