Levels of Longevity Map Bow explores
Dr Bow is one of 100+ experts in the Live Beyond Project — a father & son quest for longevity.
Discover Live Beyond →Dr Bow — Dr Sasipa Samakkeethum — is a preventive and longevity doctor in Thailand. When we filmed with her in 2023 she was at the Laguna Clinic (BDMS) in Phuket; she has since moved to the VitalLife Scientific Wellness Center, the longevity clinic of Bumrungrad Hospital, in Bangkok and Phuket. Her fascination with longevity goes back to school, and to one line from a businessman she met: it isn’t how wealthy you are or how much time you have — the most important thing in life is health. A billionaire at seventy who can’t enjoy life, living on a fistful of pills, is not the goal. The goal is healthspan.
Her method starts before prevention, with prediction. Only about a quarter of disease, she says, comes from genetic risk; the other three-quarters is lifestyle — diet and exercise. So the work is to find the risk factors while you’re still healthy and reduce them, catching sickness before it becomes disease.
From there it’s refreshingly plain. Screen for the anomalies and dangers; then change the lifestyle, and diet above all — we eat two or three meals a day for our whole life, so it matters more than anything. Modern supplements can help fill the gaps left by industrial food, cooking and a more toxic environment — but she is firm that a pill can never substitute the lifestyle.
At Laguna she sees the world’s medical-tourism patients — from the Middle East, Europe and Australia — and the pattern repeats: processed food, sugar and too much carbohydrate, driving weight gain, diabetes and metabolic syndrome. Her answer is the same for all of them, and it is why her page also touches the Longevity Basics: get the basics right first.
We filmed with Dr Bow at the Laguna Clinic in Phuket, Thailand — a longevity-minded clinic serving medical-tourism patients from around the world. What stayed with us was how grounded she is: predict and screen, yes, but the real medicine is the boring, powerful basics — and the honesty that no pill replaces them.

Dr Bow was filmed at the Laguna Clinic, Phuket, 2023. Passages from that conversation:
Dr Bow“I’ve been interested in longevity since school. A businessman I met said something that stayed with me: it’s not about how wealthy you are, or how much time you have — the most important thing in your life is health. If you’re seventy and a billionaire but disabled, eating many pills a day, that’s not quality of life. So the question became: how can we get older without all of that?”
Dr Bow“About prevention — first we have to predict. One-fourth of disease is genetic risk, but the other seventy-five percent depends on our lifestyle, our diet and exercise. That’s why prevention matters: if we can prevent sickness before any disease, while we’re still healthy, then health can stay with us for much longer.”
Dr Bow“The main points of prevention: first, detect the risk factors and reduce them. Second, if someone can’t change their lifestyle, modern medicine can provide supplements to help — because industrial food has fewer nutrients, cooking destroys them, and we take on more heavy metals and toxins. But you have to know that the pill cannot substitute the lifestyle.”
Dr Bow“Most of our patients come from the Middle East, Europe and Australia. What I notice is the same: processed food, sugars, a lot of carbohydrate — making them overweight, with diabetes or metabolic syndrome. They might think the treadmill fixes it, but the most important thing is the diet.”
