Test, then actually do something

Dr Emanuele De Nobili is the longevity doctor and medical director of Villa Eden in Merano, in the mountains of northern Italy. Villa Eden began in the early 1980s as a weight-loss retreat and medical spa; around 2015 Emanuele led its transformation into one of the first longevity medical centres in Italy — and he has been building it ever since.

His guiding principle is simple and, he admits, not as common as it should be: test, then actually do something. He layers in genetic, epigenetic and microbiome testing to understand each guest deeply — but, as he says, it’s not enough to learn that someone has a predisposition and then not know what to do. So the data always leads to therapy.

That therapy maps neatly onto the Longevity Map. First Longevity Basics — nutrition, movement, stress management. Then, from 2019, the Biohacking Upgrades: wearables to gather data (on himself first, then his patients), IV boosters (NAD+, glutathione, alpha-lipoic acid, vitamins), hypoxic training, cryotherapy and cold, and the phytoalgae “body cast” and radio-frequency treatments Villa Eden is known for.

One favourite is ozone therapy, which he has run since 2011: draw a little blood, mix it with medical ozone, and reinfuse it. “At the beginning the blood is dark red,” he says, “and after a few minutes it turns brilliant red” — the ozone helping the red cells deliver more oxygen. Deep, hands-on longevity medicine, set against the Alps.

Where we met

We visited Emanuele at Villa Eden in Merano — and of course he put me through the treatments before we talked: the phytoalgae body cast, the Zero Body cryo, the IV boosters. He’s a doctor who does the science on himself first, then offers it to his guests, and he speaks about it with the warmth of someone who genuinely loves the work. We even got a hike in the mountains together.

Longevity, under one roof

“We draw the blood, mix it with medical ozone, and give it back. At the beginning the blood is dark red — after a few minutes it turns brilliant red, because the ozone helps the red cells deliver more oxygen.”

You collect the data from the patient — but then you have to do something to improve it, not just know it.

Emanuele De Nobili

I start with the basics — nutrition, movement, stress — and then the biohacking: wearables, IV therapies, hypoxic and cold training.

When the body temperature tends to go down, the body creates more energy — as heat.

Three things that make Villa Eden’s medicine work.

Data that leads somewhere

Genetic, epigenetic and microbiome testing build a deep picture of each guest — but the point isn’t the report. Every finding is turned into a plan and a therapy, so knowing a risk always comes with something to do about it.

“Test, then act.”

Merano · from the interview

Longevity Basics, then upgrades

He starts where the Map starts — nutrition, movement, stress — before layering on the biohacking: wearables, IV boosters like NAD+ and glutathione, hypoxic training, cryotherapy and the phytoalgae body cast. Basics first, technology second.

“Basics first, technology second.”

Merano · from the interview

The doctor is patient zero

Emanuele tests everything on himself before offering it — wearables since 2019, ozone since 2011. It’s medicine practised by someone who lives it, in a setting (the Merano Alps) that does half the work for you.

“He does the science on himself first.”

From the conversation

Emanuele De Nobili, in his words

Emanuele De Nobili was recorded at Villa Eden, Merano, in July 2025. Passages from that conversation:

From spa to longevity centre

Emanuele De Nobili“Villa Eden started in the early ’80s, but the beginning was mostly a retreat for weight loss. Around 2015 — ten years ago — we were almost the first in Italy to change from being just a resort and medical spa into a longevity medical centre. I’d started a master’s in Milan in anti-ageing medicine, but not the old aesthetic kind — as preventative medicine: genetic tests, epigenetic tests, microbiome tests. And then therapies, because once you have the data, you have to do something with it.”

Data, then therapy

Emanuele De Nobili“You collect the data from the patient, but then you have to do something also to improve it — not just to know that they have a predisposition to a disease and then not know what to do. So we also started to do the therapies. We begin with the basics — nutrition, physical activity, stress management — and then, as biohacking, from 2019 I started using wearable devices to collect as much data as I can: from myself first, and then from my patients.”

The therapies

Emanuele De Nobili“Then we add IV therapies, hypoxic training, cold therapy — before, just the cold plunge, and now the Zero Body cryo. We do IV infusions with minerals, vitamins, antioxidants, NAD+, alpha-lipoic acid, glutathione — being a booster, the client feels it immediately. And the phytoalgae body cast, with the draining, anti-inflammatory properties of micronized seaweed and essential oils, which activates the microcirculation and boosts a sluggish metabolism.”

Ozone

Emanuele De Nobili“We started ozone in 2011. We collect 150 to 200 millilitres of your blood, the machine produces a mixture of oxygen and ozone, we mix it with the blood and give it back. At the beginning the blood is dark red, and after a few minutes it becomes brilliant red — because the ozone allows the red cells to deliver more oxygen.”
