Levels of Longevity Map Iva explores
Iva Mazzoleni is one of 100+ experts in the Live Beyond Project — a father & son quest for longevity.
Discover Live Beyond →Iva Mazzoleni is proof that the most powerful longevity tool isn’t in a lab — it’s your own body, moved well. She is the founder of IVA Pilates® and the creator of The Groundness Method™, and has spent over 25 years helping people change how they move, feel and live.
Her teaching sits at the heart of the Longevity Map’s Longevity Basics: daily, intentional movement. Not fancy gadgets, not punishing workouts — a simple ritual that keeps the spine supple, the joints mobile and the posture upright. “Most people try to change through willpower or mindset alone,” she says, “ignoring the one place that keeps them alive: the body.”
What makes Iva’s work different is the emphasis on intention. Her signature line — “80% of a movement’s benefit comes from your mindset and purpose; only 20% is the action itself” — reframes exercise entirely. Move with awareness and you train not just muscle, but coordination, balance and inner power. It’s a message that echoes the whole Live Beyond idea: the body as a temple, not a trash bin.
She belongs firmly in Longevity Basics — the un-glamorous, mostly-free habits that do most of the work of a long, strong life.
I met Iva in Switzerland and did Pilates with her on the reformer — and it changed how I think about movement. She doesn’t coach reps; she coaches intention. Her four-step daily ritual is in the book, and it’s one of the simplest, most repeatable things anyone can start today.

Iva MazzoleniYou don’t need fancy gadgets — just a daily ritual that honours your body as a temple for strength, resilience and longevity.
Iva MazzoleniOur body is the home of our soul, the source of our vitality, and the vessel for who we’re becoming. When we begin there, everything else falls into place.

Iva MazzoleniIva’s daily ritual — the four moves she teaches for a supple spine, aligned body and an upright, intentional posture. From the book.
Start by breathing with awareness — each inhale refreshing, each exhale releasing tension. Then move your spine in every direction: lengthen, bend, rotate. It keeps the spine supple and resets the nervous system. This is the base of the whole practice.
“Each inhale refreshes; each exhale releases.”
Switzerland · from the interviewMobilise the hands and feet — the body’s extensions — to stay balanced and aligned. Small joints, big effect: this is the part most exercise skips, and the part that keeps you steady and coordinated as the years add up.
“The hands and feet keep the whole body aligned.”
Switzerland · from the interviewPress into the wall and floor, engage your core, and reconnect with your natural upright posture — holding 10–15 seconds, three times. It stabilises the core and reminds the body it was designed for upright, intentional movement. The key, always, is intention.
“You were designed for upright, intentional movement.”
