Who is Liv Kraemer

Skin is an organ

Not every longevity expert works in a lab or a clinic full of machines. Liv Kraemer came to it from a different door entirely — a career that began in modelling, turned into medicine, ran through umbilical-cord cell research at Columbia and the Charité in Berlin, and landed on the thing most scientists quietly skip past: the skin. Today she is a skin-longevity doctor in Zurich.

Her argument is simple and slightly provocative: cosmetology is a real pillar of longevity, not vanity. Skin is the body’s largest organ; looking after it is prevention. She never liked the word “aesthetic” — “it’s more prevention, it’s taking care of your skin.” This is exactly why Marek put cosmetology into the Biohacking Upgrades of the Longevity Map, where most experts leave it out.

And she is ruthless about simplicity. Not 12,000 products — the right ingredients: fruit acids (AHAs), retinols, and a sunscreen, used to push the skin’s cell turnover. Skin and gut are one system — the skin–gut axis — so care works best when skincare and what you take inside move together. “A cream is just a consistency,” she says; the ingredient is what matters.

Underneath it all is a physician’s ethic. A doctor should inform, not sell. “Fear happens because of unknowledge” — give people the knowledge and they make good decisions and stop chasing every miracle jar. Everything, she says, is connected: “like a Swiss watch — a couple of wheels have to move because the big hand is moving.”

Where we met

We met Liv in Zurich near the end of the quest. After a year of talking to scientists chasing the deepest mechanisms of ageing, it was bracing to sit with someone who insists the skin — the organ everyone sees and most researchers ignore — belongs in the same conversation. Her case for cosmetology as prevention, delivered fast and without dogma, changed how we think about “beauty span.”

“A cream is just a consistency. Telling me “I’m using a serum and a cream” is like telling me “I’m using a soup.” It’s the ingredient that matters.”

In her words

Knowledge over fear

“Fear happens because of unknowledge. If you have the knowledge, you have respect — and then you make the right decisions for your skin.”

Liv Kraemer · Zurich

Fruit acids, AHAs and retinols are the basic — and a sunscreen. That’s the main thing.

Liv Kraemer

A physician should not sell people something. You should tell them the truth.

Liv Kraemer

If a person goes to a dermatologist every week, he is doing something wrong.

Liv Kraemer

It’s like a Swiss watch — a couple of wheels have to move because the big hand is moving. Everything is connected.

Straight from the interview

Three ideas that reframe skincare as longevity.

Skin is an organ

The largest one you have. Caring for it isn’t vanity — it’s prevention, the same as looking after your heart or your gut. That reframe is the whole point: cosmetology earns its place on the Longevity Map.

“It’s more prevention than aesthetic.”

Zurich · from the interview

Keep it simple

Not 12,000 jars and a separate eye cream — the eye area is the same skin. The core is small: fruit acids and retinol to push cell turnover, and a sunscreen. Right ingredients, used consistently, beat a crowded shelf.

“Guys — the eye cream, it’s the same skin.”

Zurich · from the interview

Inform, don’t sell

Her ethic as a physician: give people knowledge instead of fear, and never sell them something they don’t need. A patient who understands their skin stops panic-buying and starts taking care — and doesn’t need the doctor every week.

“Fear happens because of unknowledge.”

From the conversation

Liv Kraemer, in her words

Video interview

The video interview is coming. Recorded interviews go live after the launch of the film & series Live Beyond.

Liv Kraemer was filmed in Zurich, 2025. Passages from that conversation:

A different path

Liv Kraemer“I’m coming from a totally different path. I was a model very early, then I went into medicine. I worked with umbilical-cord blood and cells — developing valves — then at Columbia University, and back to the Charité in Berlin. In the early 2000s I went into the aesthetic field. I didn’t like the word aesthetic, because it’s more prevention. It’s taking care of your skin.”

Cream is a consistency

Liv Kraemer“This is where people are wrong — they think a cream is a product. A cream is just a consistency. Telling me “I’m using a serum and a cream” is like telling me “I’m using a soup.” It’s the ingredient that matters. Fruit acids, AHAs and retinols are the basic — and a sunscreen. That’s the core.”

The skin–gut axis

Liv Kraemer“To neglect the skin–gut axis is never good. Just doing supplements and not taking care of your skin — that’s not it. My patients start with skincare: one product, nothing more in the evening, and we build from there. So much on the market is just the marketing game.”

Knowledge, not fear

Liv Kraemer“I always tell my patients: fear happens because of unknowledge. If you have the knowledge, you have respect — and you make the right decisions. And a physician should not sell people something. You should tell them the truth. If someone goes to a dermatologist every week, something is wrong.”
