Levels of Longevity Map Olivia explores
Dr. Olivia Lesslar is one of 100+ experts in the Live Beyond Project — a father & son quest for longevity.
Discover Live Beyond →Dr. Olivia Ly Lesslar is an Australian physician specialising in psychoneuroimmunology and longevity medicine — the science of how the mind, nervous system, immune system and hormones are all in constant conversation. Colleagues call her a "medical Sherlock Holmes" for untangling complex, multi-system conditions that defy the usual playbook.
She is Director of Functional and Longevity Medicine at Cingulum Health in Sydney, where she blends neuroplasticity-based therapies and transcranial magnetic stimulation with functional medicine, and works with concierge longevity clinics abroad — caring for patients that include some of the world's most recognisable names. She holds academic appointments at Griffith University's National Centre for Neuroimmunology and at the Geneva College of Longevity Science, and advises 30+ health-tech companies across neurotech, biotech and space medicine.
Her work turns the "soft" science of mind and body into hard science. Through her threat detection network framework and the Nine Ancient Survival Threats — the subject of a 2025 seven-city tour across Australia and New Zealand — she explores how chronic, low-level threat keeps the body inflamed, and how emotional healing, stress resilience and belief measurably change our biology. "Let's stop normalising chronic disease," she says.
Her mission is personal. She lost her mother at seventeen, and was chronically ill herself for years — "collecting diagnoses like Pokémon cards" — before finding her way back through routine, happiness and belonging. It's why she fights so hard to hand patients back their agency: you have so much more control than you realise.
We first met Olivia in Singapore — an interview at the Unlocking Healthy Longevity conference, and then hours by the pool, deep in the science of the mind–body connection. Months later our paths crossed again on the tiny Spanish island of Formentera — both of us hosted at the Can7 longevity retreat, where we filmed, with an unforgettable boat ride thrown in, and where "sister" and "brother" picked up right where they'd left off. Since then our paths have kept crossing across the longevity world — London, Porto, Bali and sharing the stage together at LifeSummit Berlin. Longevity friends for life.
"I really like it when I meet the same longevity people all around the world."
— Marek Piotrowski, to Olivia in Formentera
"If we had mainstream media behind us — people taking control of their health — you'd shift the needle like this, overnight."
Olivia Lesslar · FormenteraFear, anger and shame carry a heaviness. Joy, compassion and forgiveness carry a lightness.
Olivia LesslarYou have so much more control than you realise.
Olivia LesslarI've seen patients thrive not by changing what they eat, but how they eat — with gratitude, time, and friends at the table.
Olivia LesslarStay the master of your wearable — not the slave to it. It's what sings to you that matters.
Olivia Lesslar · FormenteraPulled from our two conversations with Olivia — in Singapore and on Formentera — her philosophy, her own practice, and her hope for the mission.
Everything is connected to everything — which means far more levers to pull than pills alone. The mind and heart, she says, are just the ones we keep overlooking.
"I love psychoneuroimmunology — everything affects everything. We have so many more levers to pull."
Singapore · 2024She healed herself not with a master plan but with routine, happiness and belonging — and wears no tracker, choosing to listen to her body instead.
"The main reason I sorted out my issues is because I found routine and I found happiness."
In her own practiceLike every expert we met, Olivia sent us off with a blessing — that our story would carry, and reach as many people as it could.
"I hope you're telling a story that is going to touch as many people as possible. The world needs good storytellers."
Singapore · 2024The video interview is coming. Recorded interviews go live after the launch of the film & series Live Beyond.
Selected passages from our two filmed conversations with Dr. Olivia Lesslar — first in Singapore, then on the island of Formentera.
Olivia Lesslar"I love psychoneuroimmunology — that intersection point between psychology, behavioural sciences, the nervous system, immunology and endocrinology. Funny enough, everything affects everything. And we have so many more levers to pull when it comes to optimising health, happiness, physical health, because everything is connected to everything. The mind aspect and the heart aspect tend to be overlooked, because they're harder to quantify."
Marek Piotrowski"So you feel like you're on a mission?"
Olivia Lesslar"The heart, the mind and the spirit are a little bit ignored in favour of the cool tools and gadgets and the new supplements. I feel that my mission is to put the hard science into the soft science. Why does healing emotions help with chronic disease? Why does stress resilience improve someone's disease state? We know these things to be true. Let's stop normalising chronic disease. That's what we need to do."
Olivia Lesslar"The medical system did a really good job of taking away patients' agency — a few generations of that, and patients don't believe they have it within themselves. We need to change that narrative. You have so much more control than you realise. You do it at your pace. You do what sings to you, not what someone tells you to do."
Olivia Lesslar"I've been developing a hypothesis I call the threat detection network — different systems in the body that talk to each other almost at a quantum speed, trying to assess whether something is a real threat or not. Our modern environments are saturated with low-level, persistent threats, so the body's alarm never fully switches off. Inflammation, meant to be temporary, becomes chronic — and that wears down resilience and accelerates ageing."
Olivia Lesslar"Placebo — and its opposite, nocebo — aren't just clinical curiosities. Believe something will heal you and measurable changes can occur; believe something will harm you and the body can begin to break down. The brain is a fully equipped pharmacy. A single thought, charged with emotion, can alter your biochemistry. That's not speculation — it's physiology."
Olivia Lesslar"Stay the master of your wearable, not the slave to it. I've seen patients wake up in a panic because a ring told them they slept poorly — and when I ask, 'How do you feel?', they say, 'Fine.' Then don't worry about it. I don't wear anything now. I'd rather come back to myself and learn to listen to my body."
Aleksander Piotrowski"What would you wish us for the rest of our journey?"
Olivia Lesslar"I hope that on your journey you get whatever enlightenment is there for you to have, and that you're able to translate that message to the person watching your movie. The world needs good storytellers, and I hope you're telling a story that's going to touch as many people as possible."
