Levels of Longevity Map Ron explores
Ron Batuigas is one of 100+ experts in the Live Beyond Project — a father & son quest for longevity.
Discover Live Beyond →Ron Batuigas is proof that a longevity practice doesn’t have to start in a lab. For years he was the man you texted when you didn’t know where to go in Toronto — a professional nightlife host with a nickname that said it all: “I’m with Ron.” He got paid to go out, and he went out a lot.
The pandemic ended all of that overnight — and, as he tells it, gave him something better. With the clubs closed, a former competitive swimmer went back to the water: he headed to the lake with his friend Nick, started swimming in the cold, and never stopped. What began as “there’s nothing else to do” became a daily ritual and, eventually, a new identity.
Today Ron is one of the anchors of Toronto’s cold-water community, based out of Inward — the sauna-and-cold-plunge spot he calls the “OG”, where everything started for him. He pairs contrast therapy (hot sauna, cold plunge) with Wim Hof breathwork, and treats the streak itself as the point: a non-negotiable daily practice that keeps him from sliding back into the old life.
He belongs firmly in Longevity Basics on the Longevity Map — the un-glamorous, mostly-free habits that do most of the work — with a foot in Biohacking Upgrades for the deliberate use of cold, heat and breath. His real lesson is about purpose: the plunge gave his day a shape, and the shape changed his life.
I came to Canada to see friends and look for anything connected to longevity. I didn’t find much hard science — but I found a wonderful biohacking community, and Ron is one of its leaders. I spent ten days in Toronto and did sauna-and-cold-plunge at least seven times. On the last day, we filmed one more — together.
“During the pandemic you can’t go out. I kind of found another purpose — and from then on, I never stopped.”
— Ron Batuigas, Toronto
“Before, I used to party. Now this is the lifestyle — it gave me a purpose every single day.”
Ron Batuigas · on the turning point · TorontoDuring the pandemic you can’t go out. I found another purpose: I headed to the lake and swam with my buddy Nick — and never stopped.
Ron BatuigasI follow Wim Hof — the breathwork, the plunges. I didn’t want to break the streak, because I didn’t want to go back to the old habit.
Ron BatuigasThis is the OG spot. The original members still come here because they love it — it’s quiet.
Ron BatuigasIt comes back to the person. Some people need this to relax; some do it every day before starting the day.
Ron BatuigasA short guide to Ron’s practice — how a party host became a plunge guide, and why the daily ritual matters more than any single cold dip.
Ron’s story is a clean before-and-after. Before the pandemic he was Toronto’s go-to host — social, out every night, paid to be there. When that world shut down, a former swimmer went back to the water and found a purpose that stuck. The lesson isn’t “cold water is magic” — it’s that a daily practice can replace an old identity with a better one.
“I found another purpose — and never stopped.”
Toronto · from the interviewContrast therapy is the core: a hot sauna, then a cold plunge, repeated — paired with Wim Hof breathwork. Ron treats the streak as the real intervention. Doing it every day, at roughly the same time, is what keeps the habit from slipping. The cold is the tool; the ritual is the medicine.
“I didn’t want to break the streak.”
Toronto · from the interviewNone of it happened alone. Ron came up through Inward — the “OG” sauna-and-plunge spot in Toronto — and helped grow a community around it. Some members come once a month, some every week, some every day. It’s a small, quiet, un-Finnish version of a very old idea: heat, cold and other people.
“The original members still come — they love it, it’s quiet.”

Ron Batuigas was filmed at Inward in Toronto, July 2024 — on the last of ten days during which Marek did sauna-and-cold-plunge at least seven times. What follows are passages from that conversation.
Ron Batuigas“Before the pandemic I used to go out a lot. I love being social, so it became a habit — I’m always out. I got paid to go out; I hosted parties in Toronto. People follow me. I have this nickname: “I’m with Ron.” If you don’t know where to go in Toronto — message Ron.”
Ron Batuigas“During the pandemic, obviously you can’t go out. I kind of found another purpose. I used to be a swimmer growing up, and I thought, there’s nothing to do — I’m just going to head to the beach and swim with my buddy Nick. And from then on, I never stopped.”
Ron Batuigas“I follow Wim Hof — the breathwork, the number of plunges. I didn’t want to break it, because I didn’t want to go back to that old habit of partying. So this gave me a purpose every day.”
Ron Batuigas“You’re here at Inward. This is where everything started for me too — from the lake. I live down the street. Not a lot of people know it, but this is the original spot, before everything opened everywhere. We call it the OG spot. The original members still come here because they love it — it’s quiet.”
