He has been in the field for over a decade, since medical school, inspired by the same names that recur across this site: Aubrey de Grey, George Church, and the bioelectricity pioneer Michael Levin.
His mission is stated with unusual precision: to reverse biological ageing across all 82 organ types. To do it he built a framework — a Level 1, 2, 3 protocol that folds hundreds of ageing tests and therapies into a single, personalised, adaptive plan, with the aim of proving rejuvenation in every organ, measurably. If you have seen the Netflix documentary Don’t Die, you have seen his work: he was the physician behind much of Bryan Johnson’s Project Blueprint.
What is striking in conversation is that a data-obsessed clinician is drawn to the boldest science of all. He is candid that the replacement strategy is, in theory, one of the easiest routes to solving ageing — rather than running a hundred therapies to rejuvenate every cell type, you grow a healthier organ and swap it in. He once wrote exactly that in a medical-school exam and was marked down for it — and then watched George Church humanise pig organs and the first pig-to-human transplants succeed.
He is honest about the field’s hardest frontier, too. You can make an organ younger; the brain and mind are different. You cannot simply swap the brain out, and a younger brain does not fix an unhappy one. It is why he is excited about Levin’s bioelectricity — membrane voltages as a possible next generation after the Yamanaka-factor era, with real implications for mental health.
And his day job is turning all of this from ambition into evidence: funding clinical trials through venture capital, charities and startups, and running his own consulting and clinic work under 20one. The vision is science fiction; the method is spreadsheets and trials.
We met Oli in London, high above the city, and the conversation is a tour of the near future told by someone unusually careful about evidence. It moves from replacing organs to Michael Levin’s bioelectricity to the limits of what rejuvenation can do for the mind — and keeps returning to his real discipline: measure it, or it doesn’t count.

Oliver Zolman“I’ve been in the field maybe ten, twelve years now, since the beginning of medical school — meeting people like Aubrey de Grey and reading research by George Church, Michael Levin, the stem-cell biologists. I’m just very inspired by the potential. Currently I’m working on pushing research forward: funding clinical trials through venture capital, charities and startups.”
Oliver Zolman“In med school you do an extra degree — I did mine in regenerative medicine, business and the biology of ageing. I remember writing in an exam that one of the easiest ways, in theory, to solve ageing is the replacement strategy. Then you don’t have to worry about doing a hundred different therapies to rejuvenate every cell type and every pathology in each organ. If you could just replace it — full surgical replacement, in vivo bioprinting, cell-based replacement — that’s a lot easier. They didn’t like that answer. I didn’t get good marks. But that’s what George Church is doing — humanising pig organs with dozens of gene therapies to make them safe.”
Oliver Zolman“Just getting your organs younger doesn’t really help with the brain — the brain is tricky, and the brain and mind are kind of separate. You can’t really do surgery for replacement, and you can make it younger, but if you’re still unhappy it doesn’t fix your mental problems.”
Oliver Zolman“Michael Levin’s work is still very early stage — I don’t think he’s done anything clinical — but it shows the power of electricity, of membrane voltages, in biology. That could be the next generation, maybe after Yamanaka factors. It’s an elegant but not perfect solution now, and the next generation after that could be bioelectronics. And it has more use in mental health, I feel — which is exactly where making organs younger doesn’t reach.”
Marek Piotrowski“As George Church says, 3D bioprinting is amazing, but maybe it’s ten or fifteen years away — and in the meantime we need the organs.”
Oliver Zolman“Yeah, we do need organs. The first pig-to-human transplants have happened recently, and the outcomes so far have been good. That idea — growing an organ that’s healthier, even genetically modified to have better genes than your own for that organ, and replacing it — is a really, really good thing.”
