We arrived as strangers with a camera. They opened their labs, their universities and their companies — and then, again and again, their front doors. We ate at their tables. We ran, swam and cold-plunged with them, were driven across cities, walked into forests and taken up mountains.

None of them had to. All of them did.

These are the 100+ people who taught us what this field knows — and what it still does not. Every page is in their own words, because that is the only honest way to meet somebody.
